The Heyliger Residence is situated on a ridge of a hill, overlooking the Atlantic ocean and the Caribbean sea. It is built to survive hurricane force winds over 180 mph. The prevailing N.E. trade winds, which typically exceed 20 knots, lead to a design strategy of breaking the wind. This layout defines a leeward out door arrival plaza and private swimming pool. The driveway was facilitated with natural stone retaining walls and an annex building. The annex, while providing driveway retaining, contains a maids quarters, water cistern, pump house, and gazebo.
